Here are our recommendations for area restaurants, all of which we personally visit.  Perhaps more than we should.

  • Indigo Smoke - 387 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair 973-744-3440.  Menu (PDF) Kansas City bbq and soul food boutique.
  • Greek Delights - 558 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair 973-783-9100.   Menu (PDF)    Great place for lunch and in the summer they have seating outside.  I recommend the Chicken Souvlaki in Pita.  Open seven days for lunch and dinner.
  • Corso 98 - 98 Walnut Street, Montclair 973-746-0789.  Menu (PDF)  When you ask for the owner of Corso 98 you may have to wait a few minutes for him to put his shirt on.  You see, he spends most of time in the kitchen with the chef, his brother.  The combination works.  Anne and I had dinner and she had a Pistachio Encrusted Salmon and I had Boar Stew.  Both were fantastic.  The ambiance is about average not too quiet and not too loud.  Just the right sounds to let you know everyone was having fun.  No liquor license so BYOB.
  • Egan & Sons - 118 Walnut St, Montclair  973-744-1413  Menu (PDF)
  • Church Street Cafe - 12 Church Street, Montclair  973-233-0216  Menu (PDF)  Church Street Cafe has one main dining area and an additional upstairs room for private parties.  The potato leek soup was fantastic.
  • Mexicali Rose 10 Park Street, Montclair, NJ  973-746-9005.  Mexicali Rose was voted the best Mexican restaurant in NJ for so many years I can't list them.  They have eat in or take out.  In the summer you can sit on Park Street and experience the Montclair night life.  Robert's favorite is the combination platter.  Moderately priced they accept all major credit cards. Parking is available on the street or next store in the parking garage.  In the evenings they have limited free parking next door at the auto repair shop.  On street and municipal Parking is free after 6:00 pm and all day Sunday.  MAP
  • Mr Dino's Restaurant & Pizzaria  -  119 Watchung Avenue, (Watchung Plaza), NJ  973-783-7110.  Mr Dino's has fantastic pepperoni pizza that is very robust as well as an excellent grilled chicken Caesar salad.  You can eat in or take out.  Casual dining with about 12 tables. Great place to take the kids. Parking is available on the street or behind Mr. Dino's in the municipal parking lot.  Parking is free after 6:00 pm and all day Sunday.  MAP
  • Jose Tejas  -  647 Route 46 West, Fairfield, NJ  973-808-8201.  We visit this restaurant more than any other for a very good reason.  Its cheap.  For two adults and three children we very often get out for $30.00 including the tip.  Perfect place for the kids when you don't want to worry about the noise.  Casual dining and reservations are not accepted.  All major credit cards honored.  The enchilada platter is available with cheese, chicken or beef and they have a stupendous blue cheese steak salad, big enough for two.  Anne and I sometime split the salad as an appetizer.  The children's menu is very inexpensive and they have free refills on non alcoholic drinks. Free parking is available off-street in their parking lot.  MAP
  • Nauna's Bella Casa  -  148 Valley Road, Montclair, NJ  973-744-3232. A favorite of Robert's for lunch.  Tasty thin crust pizza or sit down for their express buffet lunch special.   They're always friendly and smiling.  Here is good hint on how to find a great, fast restaurant.  See where the local police eat.  If you had to drive around in a car all day and eat on the run wouldn't you go to the best place in town?  Free parking is available in their private lot.  MAP
  • Hard Rock Cafe - 221 West 57th Street, New York  212-489-6565.  Now, we know this is a little out of the way, but let's face it, you want to live in Montclair to take advantage of the city.  Hands down this is Robert's favorite restaurant on the planet.  Here you can get a real hamburger.  (Real men don't fret about mad cows! Besides that cow was Canadian) They also have a really good BBQ pork sandwich.  The food portions are phenomenal so bring your appetite.  Each restaurant has a gift shop and we have made a habit of picking up a small shot glass from every location.  So far we have Atlantic City, New York, City, Phoenix, AZ, San Francisco, CA, Paris, France and Washington D.C.  Parking - seriously? Take a cab.    MAP
